About Earlybird

Earlybird Venture Capital focuses on European technology companies. Founded in 1997, Earlybird identifies and backs exceptional early-stage companies on a pan-European basis and supports them through their growth and development phases – providing financial resources, strategic support, plus access to an international network and capital markets. Earlybird invests out of a family of independently-managed funds. Flagship funds with early-stage focus include Digital West (Western Europe), Digital East (Emerging Europe), and Health. Newer funds Earlybird-X (pre-seed in Western Europe & university spinoffs) and Growth Opportunities (a pan-Earlybird growth fund) offer even more agility. With EUR 2 billion under management across all fund streams, 9 IPOs, and 31 trade sales, Earlybird is one of Europe’s most established and active venture capital firms.

You would be joining the small, fast-moving in-house engineering team. We develop EagleEye, a tool that focuses on helping our investment team to find better deals, faster. We collaborate closely with the investment team in order to solve their key problems as well as support other functions in the firm, such as the investor relations, with for example portfolio analysis.

At Earlybird, your projects, responsibilities, and tasks will likely include:
  • Integrating new data sources into our system, using our scraping and API-integration systems
  • Iterating and improving our industry classification system
  • Enhancing our semantic search engine
Our core stack includes Python, PostgresQL, and Typescript. We work in Google Cloud Platform, making use of services like Cloud SQL, Cloud Storage, and Cloud Functions.
What we hope you bring to the role:
  • You are currently pursuing a university degree within the STEM subjects
  • You have experience programming in one or more programming languages, for instance Java, C++, or Python
  • Experience actively collaborating with other software developers is preferred but not required
